Brutal attack on Serbs in Pec: They hardly escaped lynch
Blic (Yugoslavia) - October 12, 2002

Kraljevo - Milena Radosavljevic of Kraljevo led 50 Serbs to Pec the day before yesterday to settle their pensions. Downtown Serbs were attacked by Albanian extremists.

'The bus by which we arrived in Pec was followed by Spanish KFOR soldiers. In the bus there were 50 Serbs older than 65 years of age. They came to Pec to open accounts for their pensions. While we were in the building, several hundreds of Albanians gathered around the bus. They started throwing Molotov's cocktails on the bus. Stones and bricks were thrown on the bus from all sides. The attack lasted more than two hours. Then they tried to set the bus on fire', Milena Radosavljevic says.

In the meantime KFOR ordered Serbs to leave the building and board the bus so as to save their lives. While Serbs were boarding the bus new attack followed. Fire cocktails were thrown on KFOR soldiers, too and the police drew back.

'Only after the bus was started, KFOR soldiers and police acted. Some shots were heard and extremists were treated with teargas. While we were leaving Pec we were attacked again from all sides. Several passengers were injured', Radosavljevic says.

'When we arrived in Osojane we were ordered to park the bus within Spanish base and KFOR took the bus keys. Then the real drama began. They forced us out of the base and held us for two hours in rain with guns pointed at us. Spanish soldiers maltreated us and a lot later we got escort to Gorazdevac. There in Italian base we were received with care and understanding', Milena Radosavljevic ended her story.
