B92 - January 13, 2005

BELGRADE -- Thursday – Belgrade lawyer Toma Fila claimed today that his telephone conversations are being monitored by the State Security Service.

Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti writes that under the codename Cactus, secret police recorded Fila’s conversations with journalists, family members, crime suspects who he was defending, other lawyers and his office.

The lawyer has filed charges against persons unknown alleging abuse of official position and has asked the state prosecutor to initiate proceedings against former police minister Dusan Mihajlovic, and the former head of State Security, Goran Petrovic.

He has proposed the calling of former secret police operative Igor Kecojevic as a witness and asked for the production of reports from Operation Cactus, in which he claims more than a hundred people were followed and monitored.
