BELGRADE , Dec 7 (Tanjug) - Citizens of
Serbia will on Sunday again try to elect a new president of the republic, having
to choose among three candidates this time - Vojislav Kostunica, Vojislav Seselj
and Borislav Pelevic.
In order for the fourth presidential elections in Serbia since the introduction
of the multiparty system in 1990 to be successful it is necessary for more than
fifty percent of the electorate to vote in the first round. The candidate who
receives more than 50 percent of the votes of the total number of voters that
cast their votes will become Serbia's new president.
Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Vice-President
Branko Ruzic said on Thursday that the Dec 8 repeated Serbian presidential
elections are "political trickery of the government which wants to conserve the
existing state of affairs".
SPS has no candidate of its own and has accepted the proposal of its president,
Slobodan Milosevic, on trial before the tribunal in The Hague, to back Serbian
Radical Party (SRS) leader Vojislav Seselj as the opposition's joint candidate,
Ruzic told the press.
