GERMAN PREFAB HOUSES FOR DISPLACED SERBS SET
ABLAZE IN WESTERN KOSOVO
FoNet - August 8, 2004
Osojane, 8 August: One of the leaders of the (Kosovo Serb) Return Coalition,
Oliver Ivanovic, told FoNet today that Albanians in the Metohija (western)
villages of Siga and Brestovik had set ablaze prefab houses which were supposed
to accommodate Serbs displaced from these villages last night. The displaced
were going to stay in the prefab houses until their own houses are rebuilt.
The prefab houses were set up by a German non-governmental organization, THW,
and the Serbs from Siga and Brestovik paid a visit to their villages on Saturday
(7 August).
Ivanovic said that, despite torching the prefab houses, 26 families from Siga
village and 27 families from Brestovik would have their new houses built by the
end of the summer, recalling an agreement with UNMIK's (UN Interim
Administration Mission in Kosovo) office for return issues envisaging
reconstruction in Metohija villages.
