Belgrade, 11 June: The chairman of the Serb National Council [SNV] for Kosmet
[Kosovo-Metohija], Milan Ivanovic, has warned that Western countries supporting
Kosovo's independence and having troops in the province, are deploying troops
and amassing soldiers and police in northern [predominantly Serb] part of
Kosovo-Metohija in order to create a buffer zone between Serbia and Kosmet and
thus enable Albanians to realize their intentions.
"A psychological and propaganda war is being waged against the Serbs. Fear and
defeatism are being spread in order to ease a possible independence for Kosovo.
A Kfor [Kosovo Force] brigade is deployed along the Leposavic-Raska [in Serbia]
administrative line, and Kfor is planning to deploy another brigade near the
Zubin Potok administrative crossing and thus separate northern part of Kosovo
from Serbia, Ivanovic has told Glas javnosti. [passage omitted: on job ads for
police force]
"Kfor and the KPS [Kosovo Police Service] have encircled the northern part of
Kosmet, while our population in enclaves is unprotected," Ivanovic warned.
He added that it was very important for Serbian officials, especially military
ones, not to speak out of turn when saying the security situation in Kosmet was
satisfactory. [reference to Serbian CGS Ponos who said that during last week's
talks with the Kfor commander]
