SERBIAN POLICE FIND ARMS CACHE NEAR KOSOVO
BORDER
SRNA - September 18, 2004
Presevo, 18 September: Members of the Gendarmerie today found a recoilless gun
and a large quantity of mortar mines, explosives and other military equipment
near the Mehaj section of the village of Depce, Presevo Municipality, in the
immediate vicinity of the administrative boundary with Kosovo-Metohija.
The gendarmes discovered in wooden crates buried in the ground 11 mines for 82mm
mortars, four 60mm mortar mines, two packs of recoilless gun shells, five fuses
for 60mm mortar mines, three caps for 82mm mortars, a dynamite stick with a
slow-burning fuse, several detonators and camouflage uniforms.
The crates containing the mines and explosives were not found in one single
dugout but at several locations near a busy thoroughfare.
As the arms are of Chinese origin, members of the Gendarmerie believe that they
were hidden during the armed clashes in southern Serbia, i.e. that they belonged
to the OVPMB (ethnic Albanian-dominated Liberation Army of Presevo, Medvedja and
Bujanovac).
Following an investigation, the discovered arms and explosives will be destroyed
on the spot.
