BELGRADE, August 4 (Tanjug) - In the military operation Storm nine years ago, the 240,000-strong Croatian military and police force attacked the 31,000-strong army of the then Republic of Serb Krajina.

The operation was carried out from August 4 to 7, 1995, and resulted in the exodus of the nearly entire Serb population.

About 300 Serbs expelled from Croatia nine years ago and Belgrade residents protested Thursday in Belgrade against the violations of human and property rights of the expelled and Croatia's failure to honor its commitments to the Serb community against which it committed ethnic cleansing from 1991 to 1995.

This first peaceful protest march was organized on the ninth anniversary of the military operation Storm, which resulted in the expulsion of nearly the entire Serb population from Croatia, in order to draw attention once more to the serious situation of the expelled and to the injustice they are suffering even today.

The participants of the first convention of Krajina Serbs held Thursday in Belgrade said they would do everything to secure the return and survival of Serbs in their former areas in Croatia, from which they were expelled by force, and appealed to the international community to help them exercise their rights that Croatia is persistenly denying them despite commitments it has taken.

The convention was held on the ninth anniversary of the Croatian military and police operation Storm, which resulted in the fall of the Republic of Serb Krajina and in the exodus of its entire Serb population. It was organized with the support of the Serbian Commissioner's Office for Refugees.
