IRA TRAINING ALBANIAN REBELS FOR TERROR ATTACKS IN SERBIAN CITIES - BELGRADE TV

BBC Monitoring International Reports - November 26, 2004

Text of report by Serbian privately-owned TV Pink on 26 November

(Presenter) The IRA (Irish Republican Army) is training members of the so-called Albanian National Army (ANA) for terrorist attacks against Belgrade, Pancevo and Nis, Infotop (Pink TV's regular news programme) has learnt from (ethnic) Albanian sources. Branislav Krstic has more details for Infotop.

(Branislav Krstic, voice over phone) Representatives of the IRA and the Albanian National Army met north of Tirana some ten days ago, and they agreed that IRA should train several dozen ANA members for terrorist attacks of an urban character. In return, the IRA wants ANA to step up its lobbying activities in the USA, Great Britain and Germany, and, as our source said, its technical support (as heard).

According to Infotop's source, the ANA plans terrorist attacks against Belgrade, Pancevo and Nis, but the source did not specify the terrorists' targets. Terrorist attacks against these cities will be carried out at the beginning of the talks on the final status of Kosovo, our source specified.

Albanian sources close to the extremists here (in Serbia), as well as a former spokesman for the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), emphasized that the recent meeting between the ANA and the IRA in Albania was only one in a series of meetings between high-level representatives of these two terrorist organization this year.
