Bali Kombetar To Become Official In Macedonia
Vreme (Macedonia) - June 28, 2004

The Bali Kombetar Fascist movement that became notorious at the time of World War II is going to retake root in Macedonia soon, a group of Albanian historians concluded at a recent debate in Gostivar. As reported by the Albanian-language daily "Flaka", the Bali Kombetar movement is already active in Kosovo. At a meeting in Prizren (Kosovo) three weeks ago, it was said that a movement of the same kind should be launched in Macedonia too. This paper quotes a member of Bali Kombetar's committee as saying that there are conditions in Macedonia to form this movement, while at the Prizren meeting it was said that this should happen very soon.

The Macedonian Bali Kombetar is going to operate in the same way as the one in Kosovo. To this end, a founding committee has already been set up, which however should stay hidden from the public eye for the time being.

The debate of the Albanian historians in Gostivar was named "The Truth About Bali Kombetar". They criticized the Macedonian media and historians, as well as the Union of (World War II Liberation) Fighters of Gostivar and stressed that Bali Kombetar's goal was protection of the Albanian people. They stressed that Bali Kombetar was not a reactionary organization, as the Communist historians tried to present it, but a movement that fought against Communism. In their view, at the time of World War II, a civil war broke out between the Albanian Balists (Fascists) and the Albanian Communists.

A political party named Bali Kombetar operates in neighboring Albania and is deemed as far-right and extremely hard-line organization.
